Short Film Research: Foxed/Horror

 Hey Blog!

Today I will be continuing my research by looking into some short films in my genre, horror. I hope you guys enjoy!

I have organized all my information into this table, regarding common conventions of my horror genre, so that way I can see what I would like to incorporate into my film.

 Common CAMS

  • Close ups

  • Extreme Close ups

  • Tracking

  • Point of View shot

 Common Sound

  • Diegetic Sound. Footsteps, heavy breathing.

  • Non-digetic sound. Music to build tension.

 Common Mis-en-Scene

  • Dark lighting

  • Fast movement. When the girl was running

  • Dark setting. The dark cave.

 Common Editing

  • Continuity editing

  • Jump Cut

 Examples of Films

  • The Shinning

  • Get Out

  • A Quiet Place

 Elements I do like

I really like the suspense and fear built in this genre. I enjoy the dark lighting and eerie music, I feel like it really creates a mood. In my project, I will really use lighting and music to create feelings in my film.

 Elements I don't like

I am not a major fan of the close-ups; however, I do see their use. I still might try to incorporate those elements.

Thank you all for reading. Hope you enjoyed it and talk to you soon!
