Short film research: A Distorted Doll /Horror

Today I will be continuing my research by looking into some short films in my genre, horror. I hope you guys enjoy!  

I have organized all my information into this table, regarding common conventions of my horror genre, so that way I can see what I would like to incorporate into my film. 

 Common CAMS 

  • Zoom-in

  • Shot reverse shot

  • Point of View shot 

 Common Sound 

 

  • Diegetic Sound. Screaming, heavy breathing. 

  • Non-digetic sound. Music to build tension. 

  • Sound bridges

  • Voiceovers

 Common Mis-en-Scene 

 

  • Dark lighting 

  • Props. The main doll contributed to the film

  • Makeup. The use of makeup to show violence, such as bruises.

 Common Editing 

 

  • Cross cutting

  • Cut away

  • Action match

 Elements I do like

 I really like certain elements in this short. I enjoyed how they used props and voice overs to tell the story.

 Elements I don't like 

 I am not a major fan of the point of view shots. Although they give a more personal feel, I am not the biggest fan.

Title Research: The Last of Us
