How about a Dramatic film?

 Hey Blog!

Today I will continue to research for my short film introduction. I will look at separate genre movies and their typical conventions. I will now analyze drama movies.

Common Drama Camera Angles:

  • High Angles

  • Low Angles

  • Long Shots

  • Eye Level

  • Over the Shoulder shots

  • Close-ups

Common Drama Mis•En•Scene:

  • Dull Lighting

  • Mobile phone props

  • Realistic props

  • School setting

  • Home setting

  • Time period costumes (depending on when the film takes place)

  • Emotional Acting

Common Drama Editing:

  • Jump Cuts

  • Establishing Shots

  • Standard Cuts

  • Montages

  • Cutaways

Common Drama Sound:

  • Non-Diegetic dramatic music

  • Diegetic realistic sounds

Examples

A few examples of this type of movie are:

  • A Dogs Purpose, directed by Lasse Hallström

  • Wonder, directed by Stephen Chbosky

  • The Holdovers, directed by Alexander Payne

  • The Fallout, directed by Megan Park

What I enjoyed

I really enjoy the realism of dramatic movies, and the realistic costumes and props. I specifically enjoy the teen dramas, because I feel like they are very relatable.

I dislike how similar most drama movies are, but in the end that is okay because I enjoy the dramatic pattern!
